Honey faces GM bombshell

October 1999

British beekeepers could find themselves unwittingly selling illegal honey if their bees visit trial sites of GM oilseed rape, as the crop has not been approved for human consumption, says a report in the Food Magazine published today.

Beekeepers want to ensure British honey remains GM-free but say a six mile exclusion zone around GM crops will be needed to keep bees out.
